Sustainability

St Kieran Catholic Primary School prides itself in being a Sustainable School. At St Kieran we are working towards raising an environmental consciousness amongst the school community centred around reducing waste, increasing recycling and reducing carbon emissions associated with travel to and from school.

In partnership with the City of Stirling through the Living Green Grant Scheme we have been able to implement important projects and initiatives to help improve the sustainability culture within our school community.

We engage in a range of initiatives which include:

  • Worm farming
  • Composting
  • Paper and Cardboard recycling
  • Waste Free Wednesday
  • Soft plastics recycling in Kindy and Pre-Primary
  • Mobile phone and battery recycling
  • Nespresso Pod Recycling in the staffroom
  • Containers for Change

We also work closely with the Department of Transport through the Your Move Travel program to reduce traffic around our school at drop off and pick up times and promote physical activity and exercise.

We have identified the importance of integrating sustainability as a cross-curricular priority into the teaching and learning program and instilling a sense of ownership and pride in improving and sustaining the environment. We hope that our everyday practices inspire and support students to learn effective ways to make a significant contribution to our world.

We are committed to embedding a culture of understanding within our community about the importance of living in harmony with the environment, so we can protect it now and for future generations.
