St Kieran Newsletter Term 4 Week 7 - 25 November 2021
First Sunday of Advent
This coming Sunday the 28th November, is the First Sunday of Advent, known as Advent Sunday. Advent is the season of new beginnings. A new liturgical year begins on the First Sunday of Advent and it beckons to us with images of transformation and hope. It is the season of the impossible becoming possible. It is the season of longing and light.
Week by week, candles are lit on the Advent wreath signifying our longing for the light of Christ, as the time of his birth draws near. The First Sunday of Advent symbolises Hope with the "Prophet's Candle" reminding us that Jesus is coming.
Heavenly Father, your son, Jesus, is your greatest gift to us, a great sign of your love. Guide us as we strive to walk in that love together as a family this Advent. As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, bring us closer to each other and to your son. Give us the grace and strength we need every day. Help us to always trust in you. Come, Lord Jesus, lead all people closer to you. Come and dispel the darkness of our world with the light of your love. Amen.
Have a wonderful week, take care and stay safe.

Parking
We do appreciate that parking is difficult at St Kieran especially during drop off and pick up times, but I please do ask that families don’t park on the verge of private homes or organisations as sprinklers are getting broken and damage being done.
Kieran Connect 2022
Kieran Connect have been very active this year and has made lots of progress during the year with even more events planned in 2022. We are still some members short on the committee and if you are interested please contact Mrs Hart or Mr Burnett for further information. We also require the financial records to be audited, if you know of anyone that could assist the committee with this please get in contact with Mr Burnett.

St Kieran Uniform 2022
As has been previously communicated, the school has been looking at the St Kieran Uniform over the past year and a half with the Uniform Committee and while a formal decision has not been finalised, there will be changes to the uniform moving forward during 2022. As with any changes there will be a lengthy transition period where the current uniform can still be worn in conjunction with the new uniform items. We anticipate finalising this decision in the first half of 2022 with the new items being available after this time. As soon as a formal decision is made the community will be informed.
Swimming 2022
After feedback from the swimming lessons this year and as the Department of Education now set the time of year for these lessons, we have explored alternative options. This new process then creates an issue with venues that maybe available, transport required and possibly being in Term 2 or 3, we have been in contact with a private swimming school who will now be delivering our swimming lessons moving forward in 2022. This will allow greater flexibility in choosing dates, staff and ensuring a higher instructor to student ratio.
Swim level descriptors will remain the same as the Education Department levels and students will still be issued certificates at the end of the program. The 2022 swimming lessons will be towards the end of Term 4. More information will be shared with parents as the date approaches including year levels participating and requirements.
Term 4 Calendar
A reminder to keep an eye on the school website for other important dates for Term 4. These often need to be updated and finalised as the term progresses so please keep referring back to these.
Playgrounds - Before and After School
Can we please remind all families that the school playground's are not to be used before or after school. We have had several significant accidents this year and would appreciate your support regarding this.

Containers for Change
St Kieran Catholic Primary School is proudly participating in the Containers for Change recycling initiative.
Collect your eligible containers instead of tossing them in the waste, then drop them off at our school. Not only is it great for the environment, but it’s also a great way to support and maintain our sustainability program.
All money raised from this initiative will be used to continue to support our sustainable school practices.
Piano Tuition at St Kieran 2022
Piano Tuition is being held at St Kieran’s by a registered teacher with over 25 years’ experience. Lessons are conducted on a one-to-one basis throughout the school term & are alternated as much as is possible every week to avoid the same in-class lesson being affected.
It is most important that you have either a piano or keyboard to practice on.
For further details or to enrol please contact Priscilla Smith on 0414 418 568. Limited places are available so book in early to avoid disappointment.
Keyed Up Music Lessons
Keyed Up Music will be teaching guitar and keyboard lessons in Term 1 of 2022 after school. Lessons start at $18.65 for groups of four per lesson. If you are interested in your son/daughter learning the keyboard, ring Savanna on 6107 8841 or 0479 171 424 or enrol at www.keyedupmusic.com.au/enrolment-form
